Submergence was a powerful response to global geopolitical issues and the resilient power of nature and human beings. The exhibition spans the full breadth of Mehwish Iqbal’s practice including printmaking, textiles, ceramics and installation art.
Iqbal highlights the role of the natural environment, pays tribute to her grandmother’s mythological storytelling and honours the individual strength of women.
Interweaving themes of migration, displacement and belonging with personal stories that reflect on Iqbal’s upbringing and life, Submergence speaks to the experiences of migrant communities living in Australia and all over the world.
This project was supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
